Barcaldine Timeline – 1845-2015

Iningai Aborigines

In 1846 Sir Thomas Mitchell recorded that his party reached the southern part of what became the Shire of Barcaldine, named the Alice River, and came upon a group of huts belonging to the Iningai tribe of Aborigines – he estimated their population at about 700

Other explorers travelled nearby but no evidence that any ‘discovered’ Barcaldine district
