A golf club was formed in 1926. The first meeting, convened by J. Moran, elected C. Hobler to the chair and D. Stibbards as treasurer. D. McLaughlin, on whose land the first links were laid out, was made patron.

By 1927 the course was officially opened and E. Bennett was working to raise funds for a club house.

It took the form of a corrugated iron ‘rotunda’. The new course and club house were moved to the north-eastern side of town in 1938. When the new course opened on 31 July 1938, J. W. Kellett was president of the club.

The gold links were restored to use after the war and in the early 1960s an attractive new club house was built by voluntary labour. For several months through the summer, games were suspended in favour of working bees of up to 25 players.

Barcaldine golfers maintained their clubhouse and course in good condition and organised regular championships. In July 1985 an inaugural Pro-Am tournament brought 42 professionals to compete for a $2,000 purse. Barcaldine Golf Club president, John Miller had been six times Central Western champion and was Club champion for 15 consecutive years prior to 1984.
