Lawn Bowls

In 1945, greens for lawn bowls were constructed through the efforts of N. Mahoney and F. Shepherd. After an official opening by F. Harrup, president of the Central Western Bowling Club, long reports featured in every issue of the Longreach Leader, and other towns put in greens. By September 1949 a Bowling Green Clubhouse was ready for use.

The Club celebrated its fortieth birthday with a combined presidents day, arranged by Club presidents John Hindmarsh and Dawn Hansen.

A new Tiff dwarf turf was planted on the bowling greens in the mid 1980s, proving more suitable for Barcaldine’s sandy soil than the turf previously used.
