Rotary

An inaugural meeting of Rotary was conducted by A. Ralston at the Shire Hall board room in February 1961.

Rotary began with 23 members and was responsible for many community projects. It raised $6,000 to establish a kindergarten which opened in November 1966 on land donated by Barcaldine QCWA branch. The project was initiated by second Rotary president, Dr John Cox and taken over by the shire council which guaranteed maintenance. The building was constructed by locally made bricks.

The chapter also sent four students on overseas study tours, and published a monthly magazine called ‘Rotabar’.
