Welcome Home Hotel, Barcaldine 1886-1909

Mrs Mary McPherson 1886

Mrs Mary McPherson was the owner of the Welcome Home Hotel when she applied for the victualler’s licence for the hotel in July 1886. Mary was then a widow with two children, and had held a licence for four years previously on the Central Railway. The hotel was one of the first hotels to make its way to Barcaldine in 1886, and was situated in Oak Street where currently operates.

Mary appears to have sold the hotel to Thomas Lawrence Forbes at the end of 1886.  In mid-December 1886, Thomas Lawrence Forbes applied for the hotel licence to be transferred from Mary to him, and then applied for the licence at the end of December.
