The Brisbane Courier reported that the first annual meeting of the Queensland Hibernian Society was held in 1871 in the Brisbane Town Hall, attended by Irishmen of all classes. It was a church-based support group for Catholics.

The Western Champion reported in 1887 that it had:
heard that it was intended to resuscitate the line branch of the Catholic Hibernian Friendly Society. The branch line been in a quiescent state since the Pine Hill Society collapsed, and although it is both numerically and financially strong no attempt was made at Jericho to reestablish it (1 March 1887).
The HACBS in Barcaldine was established as the St Francis Branch.
