From its earliest trading days, the town had access to banking facilities.
The first banks were the Penny Savings Bank managed by local residents, and the Bank of New South Wales in 1887 (closed 2000). The National Bank branch followed in 1906 (closed 1973). A Commercial Bank operated for five years from 1926-1931 and the Commonwealth was a late starter not arriving until 1957 (closed 1999).
By 2000 all bank branches had closed, leaving only a Bank of NSW agency in the newsagency and an ATM.
The Bank of Queensland is now the only bank branch operating under the auspices of the Barcaldine Regional Council.
