Presbyterian Church

A Presbyterian Church was not built until 1910. It was equipped with a bell tower of 30 ft in 1912. The church and the Caledonian Society had a close connection, as did all the Scotsmen in town when Church parades were held.

There was some discussion at a Methodist Conference in the 1920s to maximise attendances at the Protestant churches in the region. A committee was authorised to take steps towards negotiating with the Presbyterian authorities to try and prevent overlapping along the central line with a suggestion that the Methodist church to withdraw from Longreach and the Presbyterian from Barcaldine. It wasn’t until the 1970s that the Presbyterian Church in Barcaldine closed its doors to services, and the Barcaldine Cultural Association took over the church building in September 1972.

The Church appears to have been called St Paul’s in the early period, then St Andrew’s in the 1950s.
