Richard Park built his new fire-proof shop on the Oak/Beech street corner on 13 July 1927 on the site of the West End Hotel that had burnt down in the 1920 fire. The newsagency and gift shop had space for two other traders – F. P. O’Reilly, a chemist and Spence Bros, tailors. The shop opened exactly twelve months after losing his earlier shops in the 1926 fire. Richard Park sold his business to L. Phillips three years later when he retired from the district (Hoch, 2008, p. 83).
