Motor Cycle and Cycle Club

Towards the end of the 1890s cycle riding became a craze. In 1897 Barcaldine claimed to have one of the best cycle tracks in Queensland. It circled a cricket pitch at the recreation ground, had a ‘cement-like’ wicket and was fenced and planted with couch grass. In later years it became the first air strip.

By 1920, with the increase in motor cycles, the Motor Cycle and Cycle Club had been formed.
