Soap Works

One of the smaller industries set up in Barcaldine in the 1890s was a soap works, started by Max Lang. It also produced candles.

In 1909 William Vale took over  from Max Lang. He also purchased the soap works at Longreach, dismantling it to move it back to Barcaldine, becoming known as Western Light Soap.

It was destroyed by fire in 1951.

 

Boot Factory

T. O’Brien ran a thriving business making boots and shoes of all kinds until he died (from throat cancer) in 1905.
